Surgery in South Korea

Surgery in South Korea

So, I had an ingrown hair which is really common and really normal, but I'd never had one before. When it happened I tried to self medicate. I didn't really know what was going on. Then, after a while I was like, "No, something is not right. I need to go get help."

Me being the independent person I am I decided to try to go to the hospital, explain my problem and get help on my own... It wasn't a good decision. I got there with my Google translate ready and a picture of the issue. I was like, "I have an ingrown hair. I need help. I need somebody to come look at this." So, she asked for my information and insurance. Then she said, "Oh, no. We don't do that here. You have to go somewhere else." In my mind I was like, "Is this not a medical center?"

I told the lady, "No, I think you can do it. I believe in you." She gives me a little sheet of paper and sends me to the back. I look at the paper... I look at the sign... It says 'Neuro Surgey'. I'm just trying to figure out when I said I had a brain problem? Are you trying to be funny? There's nothing wrong with my brain. Why would you send me to Neuro Surgery? Make it make sense.

After that they had this man walking around with me telling me, "We don't do that here. You have to go to a different city." Who finna go to another city? My chaperone is continuously telling me I have to leave and they can't help me. Buddy gave me the address and everything. The gag is I'm not going anywhere. I know you can fix an ingrown hair. I don't need brain surgery. What are y'all talking about?

A while goes by and I'm just like this is enough. I called one of my coworkers that's Korean and I was like, "I need your help." She pulled up. She goes in and she's translating and come to find out the Google Translate was wrong. They thought I had brain bumps and that's why I was there.

You know I just wanted to ask them... Brain bumps??? You thought I had bumps in my brain??? Multiple brain bumps at that? And you were just going to send me on my way? Would that not have been a medical miracle? If brain bumps doesn't warrant immediate care what the hell does???

After more than a hour they finally send me to the back to GENERAL SURGERY. I told the doctor my issue and he took care of it. My coworker basically saw me naked. She saw the bump while he was slicing it open. I was crying basically. It was just a weird situation.

Moral of the stories. Number one: If you need medical attention seek it as early as possible ESPECIALLY IN ANOTHER COUNTRY. Number two: Make sure you have people! No matter where you are because I would have been SOL.

AND don't let it have really been brain bumps. You were just going to send me to another city. I don't speak the language, I don't know where I'm going and I got brain problems. The hospital said, "K, byeeeeeee."

That's how I went from ingrown hair, to brain bumps, to my coworker basically seeing me naked, to happily ever after. The shit that happens to me just doesn't happen to other people. I can't make it up.
