Airbnb Denied Me

Airbnb Denied Me

R-E-J-E-C-T-E-D. Rejected.

That's right. The kid got that oh so familiar rejection email from Airbnb for their Live Anywhere on Airbnb program. The classic "Thank you for applying, but" that we all hate to read. I'm not going to lie, it stung a little bit, but then it felt good and here's why...

First, let me give you some background about me and my history. It's Summer 2014 and "We Dem Boyz" by Wiz Khalifa is blasting from your iPod. Yes, we taking it back. For me, this was my senior year of high school and I thought I was going to be coasting to the finish line. Academically, this was true, but when it came to preparing for college it was a completely different story.

Contrary to what I tell myself, I am not a trust fund baby nor was I born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Going to college was not something up for debate. It was something I was GOING to do. So that meant scholarships. I spent the majority of my senior year filling out applications, getting transcripts, writing essays, and going to interviews for scholarship after scholarship. By the time I graduated I'd applied to over 50 different scholarships and guess what? I got over 20 of them.

Receiving over 20 scholarships is the glass half view point of view I take on everything in life, but the truth is in the numbers. I was rejected by more than half of the scholarships I applied for. Some big, some small. Rejection all the same. The reason I was able to receive over 20 scholarships was because I didn't stop applying.

Dealing with rejection is nothing new to me and instead of beating myself up, I use it as motivation. That opportunity wasn't for me, but mine is on the way. It just isn't time yet. They're not ready for ME. I have more growing to do. More developing. More learning. And when the time is right I will get that lovely "We are happy to inform you" email.

Until then, the marathon continues. The grind is not going to stop. I have my goals and I'm GOING TO achieve every single one of them.

We're celebrating wins and learning from losses all 2021. I have been able to accomplish so much since launching Joyriding With Jash, but I'm all about transparency. I'm going to continue to get better so I can continue to provide value to all the JOYRIDERS around the world.

How do you deal with rejection? Let me know in the comments!
